BEVERLY, Mass. — Kersey Boulay notched her first collegiate goal on a penalty stroke in the ninth minute of overtime to give the University of New England a 3-2 victory over Endicott College in Commonwealth Coast Conference field hockey action Tuesday at North Field.

The Nor’easters (6-2, 3-0 CCC) remain the only unbeaten squad in conference play after knocking back the Gulls (4-4, 2-1 CCC).

Endicott put the first shot on target in the extra period before UNE got a pair of corners and applied pressure with the next six shots prior to the stroke. EC goalie Rose Bradley made four of her 10 saves in overtime to hold the visitors off as long as she could.

UNE trailed 1-0 at the half, but received goals in the 42nd and 50th minutes from Vonde Saunders and Brooke Marshall, respectively, to jump in front.

The lead lasted less than five minutes, however, as Sophia Cogliano redirected a push by Ashleigh Allen into the back of the net to even things up for the Gulls.

LEWISTON — Becca Murphy scored consecutive goals less than 10 minutes apart early in the second half to provide the scoring as the University of New England shut out Bates College 2-0 in a non-conference women’s soccer match Tuesday afternoon at Russell Street Field.

The win improved the Nor’easters’ record to 5-2-0, while the Bobcats suffered their first setback of the season to dip to 3-1-1. After a 19-year drought between victories over Bates, UNE has earned a win in the last two meetings.

Murphy provided the margin for victory in the 48th minute, taking a pass from Jessica Meader and lifting a shot from 30 yards out over the outstretched arms of Bates keeper Sarah McCarthy and just inside the right post.

Murphy added an insurance goal in the 57th minute to push her team-leading total to four. McCarthy thwarted Meader on a breakaway, but Murphy collected the rebound and blasted home a shot from 10 yards out.

For the game, Bates held a 35-17 advan- tage in shots but was limited to very few quality chances, as 23 of its 35 attempts were offframe. UNE goalkeeper Brielle Robinson registered 10 saves for her second consecutive shutout.

The Bobcats’ best scoring opportunity came in the 33rd minute. After Robinson made the initial stop of a shot by Libby Masalsky, UNE defenders helped clear the ball off the goal line before a Bates player could convert the loose ball.

McCarthy totaled eight saves for Bates.

London Steede-Jackson set up the game-winning goal, feeding Nicholas with a pass before the rookie drilled home his first collegiate tally.

Joakim Sternas had a pair of saves to register the shutout for Thomas, which piled up a 29-4 advantage in shots, although just seven of those 29 were on-target. Nate Diffin and Jake Rostkowski combined to stop six shots for UNE.
