BIDDEFORD — The Biddeford Tigers (2- 2) downed the Westbrook Blue Blazes (1- 3) by a score of 28- 13 at Biddeford’s Waterhouse field on Friday night. The Tigers, coming off of a 14- 7 loss to Falmouth, took the lead midway through the second quarter and never looked back. First quarter action was marked by strong offensive play from both teams. The Tigers struck first on a Lucas Rhoy touchdown run at 9: 14. The senior captain scored to cap off a drive that began with a 41- yard pass on the first play from scrimmage by junior quarterback Joey Curit to junior wide receiver Patrick Pearl. Senior captain Nick Phillips nailed the extra point to put the Tigers up 7- 0. The Blue Blazes answered when junior quarterback Bailey Sawyer found senior receiver Bailey Ryan for a 34- yard touchdown pass on a deep ball to the end zone at 5: 04. Ryan was unable to convert the extra point and the Tigers lead remained at 7- 6. The Tigers started off strong in the second quarter when Nick Phillips scooped up a Westbrook fumble at 11: 54. The Tigers later scored on the drive when Curit found senior captain Jeremy Lugiano for a 10- yard touchdown pass at 11: 49 – just five seconds after the fumble recovery. The extra point attempt went wide and the Biddeford lead stood at 13-6.

The Blue Blazes continued to fight when Bailey Sawyer again found Bailey Ryan, this time for a 41-yard touchdown. Ryan’s extra point was good and Westbrook tied the game at 13.

Following the last Westbrook score, the Tigers took control of the game. Lucas Rhoy ran for a 22-yard touchdown at 4:58 pushing the lead to 19-13. The Tigers failed on their two-point conversion attempt. Later in the quarter, Biddeford pulled off a trick play when Rhoy received a hand off and dropped back to pass, finding Curit for a 33-yard gain. Later in the drive, Phillips split the uprights for a 22-yard field goal at 4:58 and the Tigers extended the lead to 22-13.

The only score in the second half came at 4:48 in the third quarter when Rhoy ran for a 16-yard touchdown. The Tigers once again missed the two-point conversion attempt. The Tiger lead was finalized at 28-13.

Biddeford continued their stingy second half defense in the fourth quarter when senior captain Josh Dutremble sacked Sawyer on back-to-back plays late in the fourth quarter. Dutremble and Phillips led the Biddeford defense that only allowed three second half first downs to the Blue Blazes.

Biddeford coach Brian Curit said he was “proud of the adjustments” his team made in the second half, specifically against “a scary wide receiver.”

The Biddeford offense was highlighted by Rhoy, who finished with 240 yards on 30 carries in the game. Curit finished a perfect 3-for-3 on pass attempts for 69 yards and a touchdown.

Westbrook’s Bailey Sawyer finished 6- of-18 for 159 yards and two touchdowns.

The Tigers travel to York next Friday night for another Class B South showdown.
