WATERVILLE — Misha Strage redirected a cross from Megan Fortier 35 seconds into overtime to edge Colby College past the University of New England, 2-1, in a non-conference field hockey match Monday evening at Bill Alfond Field.
With the result, the Mules improve to 5-3 on the year and the Nor’easters fall to 6-4 overall.
After near misses left and right on the home net, UNE finally broke into the 1-0 deficit with less than 10 minutes remaining in regulation. Following a slip by a Colby player in the defensive zone, Nicole Matarozzo picked up the loose ball and pushed it ahead to Vonde Saunders in the circle, who tapped it back to Matarozzo for the finish.
The Mules managed to get on the board with 3:45 to go before halftime, as McKayla Blanch scored off a feed from Hannah Hearn.
Shots and penalty corners both narrow favored Colby, which received four stops from Sarah Evan.
UNE got five saves from Holly Smith.
