From the Journal Tribune: “Fire Chief Raymond Parent was selected as the Maine Fire Chief of the Year Thursday. Parent, who had been president of the Maine Fire Chief ’s Association for the past year, said he was surprised by the honor, which was conferred by the state association at its annual convention in Augusta.”

From the Biddeford-Saco Journal: “Opposition to various sections of the sewer ordinance which was passed for its first reading by the City Council on Monday night has been voiced by the Saco Taxpayers Protective Association. Sections singled out for opposition included the section giving city officials authority ‘to force homeowners to join the city sewers even though said private septic tank or cesspool be in full compliance with regulations for the same.’”

From the Biddeford Daily Journal: “Plans are rapidly being shaped up for the annual meeting of the Maine Federation of Women’s clubs at Biddeford October 26, 27, and 28, and the indications are that the convention will be a red letter one in every sense of the word. Promptness, dispatch, and good fellowship made the Presque Isle meeting of last fall memorable, and all things tend to a splendid meeting at Biddeford.”
