The Durham Planning Board meets Wednesday, Oct. 7, at 7 p.m., at the Durham Town Office.

Absentee ballots

Absentee ballots for the Nov. 3 election are available until Friday, Oct. 30. Polls in Durham, at the Durham Community School, 615 Hallowell Road, will be open from 8 a.m-8 p.m. Residents can register to vote on Election Day with proper identification and Durham address confirmation. The specimen ballot is posted at the Town Office, Durham Community School and Durham Get & Go. For more information or questions, call the Town Office during regular business hours at 353-2561.

Historical society hosting meeting,

The Durham Historical Society is changing the date for monthly meetings. It will now meet on the third Tuesday of each month. The next meeting is Tuesday, Oct. 20, at 6:30 p.m., at the Union Church/Old Town Hall. Next month the meeting will move to the Eureka Community Center. Those interested in joining the historical society are welcome to a meeting and see what the group is working on.

The historical society is planning an open house and bake sale on Saturday, Oct. 24, from 10 a.m.-noon, at the Union Church/Old Town Hall. Anyone interested in donating baked goods should contact Tia Howe at 720-0015 or email:[email protected].

A bean supper will be held Saturday, Oct. 10, from 4:30-6 p.m., at the Durham Masonic Lodge, 663 Royalsborough Road, Route 136 across from the River Park. On the menu are baked beans, chop suey, hot dogs, potato salad, cole slaw, bread, pickles and homemade pies. Prices are $7.50, $3 for children ages 5-12 and free for children under 5.

Snowmobile club

Tri-Town Penguins Snowmobile Club meets the last Tuesday of the month through April, at 7 p.m., at the Durham Fire Station, 615 Hallowell Road in Durham. The next meeting is Oct. 27. New members are always welcome. For more information, contact Duncan Daly at 865-6188 or Mike Yates at 865-3555.

PTA planning

annual craft fair

The Durham Community School PTA is having its fifth annual craft fair on Saturday, Nov. 14, from 9 a.m.-2 p.m., in the school gymnasium. There will be more than 35 local crafters. Turf field effort

The Tri-Town Track & Field Project is hosting a gathering in Pownal on Oct. 7 called When We Build it, They Will Run. The event kicks off an effort to engage the community about the upcoming fundraising campaign to build a track and synthetic field facility for Durham, Freeport and Pownal at Freeport High School. The free event, including local refreshments and live music, will be at the William Allen Farm, from 6-8 pm. Attendees can RSVP at www.letsbuildit.eventbrite.com.

Gun raffle

Durham Fire & Rescue has launched its annual “30 Days – 30 Guns in November” gun raffle.

The organization is again working with Johnson’s Sporting Goods. Tickets are $20 each and can be purchased from any member of the Durham Fire & Rescue Department. Those interested can stop by the station at 615 Hallowell Road or call 353-2473. Tickets can also be purchased at the Durham Get & Go at 697 Royalsborough Road. Sales are limited to 3,000 tickets, so the odds of winning are 1 in 100.

Couponing sessions

Couponing for the Community meets the second and fourth Wednesday of each month, from 6:30-8:30 p.m., at the Eureka Community Center. It is a chance to learn couponing basics from Pat Provost, who also shows members how to use some of their coupons to benefit families in the community and military families overseas. Weekly cribbage

The Durham Eureka Community Center, corner of Route 9 and Route 136, hosts cribbage every Tuesday from 9 a.m.-noon.

Rent Eureka Center

The Durham Eureka Community Center is available for rent. The maximum amount of people the hall holds for an event is 50. Contact Nancy Decker at 751-1323 or the Town Office at 353-2561.

Food pantry

The Lisbon Area Christian Outreach (LACO) food pantry, which serves the towns of Durham, Bowdoin, and Lisbon Falls, is open Wednesday from 6-8 p.m., Thursday from 10 a.m.-noon and Saturday from 8-10 a.m. The LACO Food Pantry is located at the Marion T. Morse School on School Street, Lisbon Falls. The parking lot is behind the Lisbon United Methodist Church, off Berry Avenue. There is also a free clothing bank.
