SACO — A Plymouth man was arrested Thursday morning following a police chase that began on the Maine Turnpike and ended in a swamp behind the Hannaford supermarket in Saco, police said Thursday.
As Maine State Police Trooper Christopher Rogers was getting out of his cruiser after having pulled Kevin Switzer, 28, over on the Saco turnpike spur, Switzer sped off, starting a chase that continued onto U.S. Route 1 in Saco and ended behind Hannaford, police said.
Switzer apparently left his vehicle, continuing on foot into what police described as “a boggy area” behind the grocery store. Rogers followed Switzer into the waisthigh mud and water before taking him into custody and then to the Saco Police
Department.
Switzer was charged with eluding a police officer and aggravated operating after his license had been revoked. He made bail and is scheduled to appear in court on Nov. 20.
Police said records show Switzer’s license was revoked for failure to pay fines and for an accumulation of points on his license.
