Fall Festival, 10 a.m. Nov. 7, Waterville

Join the Friends of Quarry Road for the Quarry Road Recreation Area’s Fall Festival off North Street in Waterville. Come explore the trails, and learn about winter programs and volunteer opportunities. Activities will include trail walks, a hay bale maze, pumpkin bowling and face painting. Bring a mountain bike and try the new pump track. Also, the Central Maine Ski Club will host a 5-kilometer Paintball Run Biathlon, beginning at 10:30 a.m. on the Quarry Road trails. Nature Writing, 10 a.m. Nov. 15, Jefferson

Hidden Valley Nature Center is offering nature writing and journaling classes as the seasons shift from autumn to winter. Andrea Lani will offer a class that teaches how to observe the natural world more keenly and how to describe it in writing. Both beginner and experienced writers are welcome. Students will try different styles of writing, and share and discuss their work. Dress for the weather and bring a journal or paper. A camp chair is also recommended, as well as a lunch. The class is free for nature center members and members of the Sheepscot Valley Conservation Association, Sheepscot Wellspring Land Alliance and Damariscotta Watershed Association.
