BANGOR (AP) — A 30-year-old Maine man has been sentenced to a 27-year prison sentence after he was convicted of raping a 10- year-old female relative.
Richard Watson, of Carmel was arrested in September and was found guilty in July of gross sexual assault, unlawful sexual contact and visual sexual aggression against a child.
He took the stand during trial and said he and the girl often spent time together. He denied any wrongdoing.
WABI-TV reports Watson has also been ordered to serve 20 years of supervised release once his prison term is completed. He was sentenced Monday.
The district attorney praised the girl for her honesty and accuracy as she recounted what happened to her before a jury.
