GORHAM — The No. 3 Gorham Rams would score just eight minutes into Tuesday night’s Class A girls soccer quarterfinal matchup with No. 11 Thornton Academy and that would be all they needed in a 1-0 win over the visiting Golden Trojans.

The Trojans played much better this time around against the Rams after dropping a 5-0 game at Gorham in the regular season.

Last night’s contest also looked like it could be a blowout as Gorham’s Emily Bragg sent a pass to Hallie Shiers, who beat TA keeper Lexi Nason to put the Rams up 1-0 early in the contest.

Nason, who holds the record for career shutouts at TA, made sure that didn’t happen as she stepped up the rest of the way to keep the deficit at one.

Unfortunately for the Trojans, Gorham keeper Emma Smith and the rest of the Rams’ defense would keep them in check throughout the game.

Nason would finish with 10 saves, while Smith stopped all six shots the Trojans fired at her.

Thornton Academy ends the 2015 season with an 8-8 record.
