Two newcomers will be welcomed to elective bodies in Freeport after Tuesday’s election.
Leland Arris, with 50 votes, won an unofficial write-in campaign to fill the Town Council’s District 4 seat left vacant by outgoing Councilor Andy Wellen. Arris, interestingly, also won a second write-in campaign on the same ballot, for a Water District Trustee position.
Town Council Chairwoman Melanie Sachs held off a challenge, 1,227 to 458, from Doreen Mae Christ, a former Lewiston city councilor.
On the RSU 5 school board, newcomer Jeremy Clough won his first term with 1,012 votes, and incumbent John Morang held onto his seat with 970 votes, forcing out longtime Chairman Nelson Larkins.
