York Pond Hike, 10 a.m., South Berwick

Join the Great Works Land Trust for a two- to three-hour hike along the historic Punkintown Road to Swazey Hill, Bartlett Mill Pond and York Pond. The hike will explore the 100-acre Rocky Hills parcel owned by the land trust. The land trust has been working in the York Pond region for more than 20 years, and with the holdings of the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife, The Nature Conservancy, and Eliot’s Town Forest, more than 500 acres have been protected. Meet in the upper parking area behind Brixham Danceworks off Route 236. Look for the “Hike Today” sign. Suggested donation of $5, or $10 for families. To learn more, call 251-9015.

Nature Writing, 10 a.m. Nov. 15, Jefferson

Hidden Valley Nature Center is offering nature writing and journaling classes led by Andrea Lani, who will teach how to observe the natural world more keenly and how to describe it in writing. Beginner writers are welcome. Students will try different styles of writing, and share and discuss their work. Dress for the weather and bring a journal or paper. A camp chair is also recommended as well as lunch. The class is free for nature center members and members of the Sheepscot Valley Conservation Association, Sheepscot Wellspring Land Alliance and Damariscotta Watershed Association. Beaver Moon, 5:30 p.m. Nov. 25, York

Join the Center for Wildlife and its staff for a hike guided by the full beaver moon. These nocturnal mammals are an important part of many ecosystems. The evening’s program will begin in the center’s Learning Lodge, where the staff will discuss the ecology of beavers and other nocturnal wildlife.
