BANGOR — A Windham man faces up to a year in prison and a $100,000 fine after pleading guilty to illegally crossing the border of Maine and New Brunswick, Canada.

Fifty-five-year-old Bruce Mayberry entered his guilty plea on Thursday in federal court in Bangor. Court records say his car triggered sensors and was observed by a border patrol agent when he entered Maine on a field road leading from New Brunswick in October.

Records say the border agent stopped Mayberry and he admitted entering through the field road and that he had been in Canada for a few days. Canada’s border services then reported that Mayberry had previously been denied entry into the country because of his criminal history.
