SANFORD — Rachel V. Conley, 88, of Sanford, died on Thursday, Nov. 26, 2015, in Kittery.

Rachel was born in Farmington on May 12, 1927, to Frank and Elodia (Pray) Wright. When she was a child her father died and her family moved to the Knox Farm in Shapleigh where she grew up and attended local schools.

As a young woman Rachel was employed at Woolworth’s in Sanford and as a telephone operator. She enjoyed gardening, sewing and watching old movies. She was also an animal lover and was especially fond of her many indoor and outdoor cats. Rachel devoted the majority of her life to raising and caring for her family. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed preparing homemade meals for her family. She will be remembered as a loving and devoted mother and grandmother and will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

Rachel was preceded in death by her husband, Delbert Conley.

Surviving are: two daughters, Patricia Hartford and her husband Walter of York, and Paula DeVoll and her husband Tod of Shapleigh; a step-daughter, Laurie Durst and her husband Dick of Parsonsfield; five grandchildren, Michael Zuk of Sanford, Christopher Zuk of Sanford, Stephen Zuk of York, Jesse L’Esperance of San Jose, California, and Brandy Colson of Thomaston; four stepgrandchildren, Adam Durst of Waterboro, Jennifer Durst of Shapleigh, Sarah Conley and Jeremy Conley; and 10 great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 5 at the Highland Grove Cemetery located on Town Farm Road in North Shapleigh.
