GREENVILLE, S.C. — Marina Oliveira of Saco serves as a group study leader in the Academic Resource Center, or ARC, at Bob Jones University for Principles of Biology. The Academic Resource Center at BJU helps students build academic confidence and excel in college. The study group leaders use their skills to minister to assist students who may need additional help in specific subjects. “Study group leaders provide the opportunity for students to work in small groups to master subject matter more effectively,” said Teresa Smith, supplemental resource supervisor with ARC. “Through attending the study groups, students gain confidence and perform better academically.” Study group leaders are student volunteers. The assistance they provide to their fellow students is invaluable and appreciated by the faculty and fellow students.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
