BRIDGEPORT, Conn. — Portland opened a one-goal lead late in the first period and Mike McKenna made 24 saves Saturday night to lift the Pirates to a 2-1 victory against the Bridgeport Sound Tigers in an American Hockey League game.

Jared Gomes of Bridgeport made it 1-1 at 13:22 of the first period, but McKenna stopped every other shot he faced in front of the announced crowd of 2,673.

Kyle Rau scored the winner from Shane Harper and David Bolland.

Portland opened the scoring just 3:56 into the game when Brett Olson notched an unassisted goal.
