FRYEBURG (AP) — Fire officials say a man was severely burned when a fuel storage tank accidentally ignited and exploded inside a garage in southwestern Maine over the weekend.
The Portland Press Herald reports the fire broke out around 6:30 p.m. Sunday at a property on McNeil Road in Fryeburg.
Fire Chief Ozzie Sheaff says two men were in the garage transferring fuel from one tank to another when something caused the explosion, which destroyed the building.
The men were able to escape, but the injured victim suffered second- and third-degree burns from the fire. The condition of the victim, said to be in his 60s, is unavailable.
The second man, who lives in the home on the property, didn’t need treatment.
