SACO — A resident of Blue Haven Mobile Home Park is dead after his home caught fire early Christmas morning.

Firefighters responded to a call at the mobile home park, off U.S. Route 1, on Friday at 1:45 a.m., according to Maine Public Safety Spokesman Steve McCausland. Larry Tenan, 76, was found dead inside his Fawn Drive home.

According to the State Fire Marshal’s Office, the fire was likely caused by smoking. Firefighters had responded to the home in the recent past for a mattress fire started by smoking, said McCausland.

According to information published by the U.S. Fire Administration, smoking is the number one cause of home fire deaths across the country. The U.S. Fire Administration advises people to smoke outside and never smoke in bed, as mattresses and bedding can catch fire easily.
