A community discussion on assisted dying will be offered at the D.A. Hurd Library in North Berwick next month. The ethically-charged question of hastening one’s own death often prompts extreme reactions.

Important ethical concerns arise from every arena, raising questions like: What do assisted dying laws provide? Is it possible to accept differing points of view and hold to a personal truth while allowing others their version?

Presenter Valerie Lovelace will offer background on the movement of assisted dying in the United States and facilitate inquiry into various aspects of the debate in a respectful, open atmosphere.

The goal of the discussion is to offer a broader view of the questions arising from the movement and to foster a greater capacity for understanding differing perspectives.

The event will be hosted on Saturday, Jan. 9, at 1 p.m. at the Hurd Library, located on 41 High St. (Route 4), North Berwick. For more information, call 676-2215.
