BURLINGTON, Vt. — Federal agents who searched a Vermont apartment after a fatal police raid last week found $2,600 worth of heroin, along with other drugs, ledgers and paraphernalia, new court documents state.

The Burlington Free Press reported that DEA agents found 260 bags of heroin ready for sale in the Burlington apartment of 56-year-old Kenneth Stephens, who was shot to death after police say he aimed a muzzleloader at them during the no-knock raid on Dec. 22.

Bullet holes were found in a neighboring house on Elmwood Avenue.

Sixteen federal, state and local police were involved in the raid.

Police say Stephens pointed a rifle at officers who were entering the home, and state Trooper Matthew Cannon and DEA Agent Tim Hoffmann fired 13 shots from their rifles.
