Chelsea makes statement with 3-0 victory
Chelsea signaled its intent to surge up the Premier League by crushing Crystal Palace 3-0 in Manchester, England in a stylish display that had shades of last season’s cruise to the championship.
Oscar, Willian and Diego Costa scored for Chelsea, which is out of realistic title contention following a dismal start to its defense but could still challenge for a Champions League spot on the evidence of its performance at Selhurst Park.
n Dele Alli enhanced his burgeoning reputation by scoring a superb equalizer to earn title-chasing Tottenham a 1-1 draw with Everton, in Liverpool, England.
The 19-year-old England international controlled with his chest a long pass forward from Toby Alderweireld and buried a first-time volley from just inside the area in first-half injury time.

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL: Madeline Hasson scored a game-high 32 points and also grabbed 22 rebounds to lead South Portland (6-2) to a 55-35 win over Lewiston (4-4) Saturday in Lewiston.
Hasson had nine field goals, two 3-pointers and finished 8 of 11 from the free-throw line. Meghan Graff added 12 points for South Portland.
Kristina Blais scored 15 points, including three 3-pointers for Lewiston.
• Peyton Feitz scored 15 points to lead Old Orchard Beach (2-5) past the Waynflete (2-4) 48-44 in Portland.
Annika Brooks scored a game-high 16 points for Waynflete which led 28-21 at halftime. Anne Veroneau added 12.
MMA
UFC: Robbie Lawler defended his UFC welterweight belt with a bruising split-decision victory over Carlos Condit at UFC 195 on Saturday night in Las Vegas.
Lawler (27-10) was awarded the narrow decision after an outstanding five-round brawl.
Condit (30-9) landed 120 more strikes and wobbled the champion multiple times, but Lawler’s power did enough damage to win three rounds on two judges’ scorecards.
Stipe Miocic also stopped Andrei Arlovski with punches 54 seconds into the first round at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.
