PORTLAND (AP) — The deadline is approaching for northern shrimp trawlers and trappers who want to capture some shrimp as part of a government sampling program this winter.
The Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission and Maine Department of Marine Resources are looking for fishermen to collect shrimp this winter. The deadline to apply is today.
Interstate fishing regulators have shut down the cold-water shrimp fishery every year since 2013. Trawlers and trappers participating in the sampling program will be allowed to land and sell several hundred pounds of the shrimp.
