AUGUSTA — With the Legislature set to reconvene this month, State Sen. Stan Gerzofsky, D-Brunswick, would like to remind local schools and students about the Senate Honorary Page program at the State House in Augusta. The daylong program gives students a unique opportunity to not only observe the state’s legislative process, but to be a part of it. All students from third grade through high school are encouraged to participate.
“I always enjoy hosting local students at the State House,” said Gerzofsky. “It is a great experience for them to see their legislature at work.”
Honorary pages help deliver messages, distribute documents within the Senate Chamber, interact with the senators and take part in a real-world, interactive legislative learning experience. The Legislature will begin its second session on Jan. 6 and is expected to run through April 2016.
Honorary pages are needed throughout the session, so scheduling is flexible. For more information or to schedule a visit, contact Gerzofsky’s office at (207) 287-1515 or email him at [email protected].

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
