SACO — Authorities have suspended a search of the Portland harbor after developing no new leads in the case of missing 23- year-old missing Saco man James “Jim” Dyer.

The Portland Police Department announced Wednesday afternoon that Portland, South Portland and state police divers had searched the harbor without developing any new leads. The water search has been suspended until new leads develop, say police, and the case is still under investigation.

Dyer, a Saco resident who grew up in Old Orchard Beach, was last seen leaving The Pearl nightclub in Portland’s Old Port around 1:45 a.m. Friday and has not been heard from since, according to police.

Surveillance camera footage showed Dyer outside the nightclub, confirming reports from friends, according to Saco Police Chief Bradley Paul. Paul said there was no information that Dyer was in the water, but the water was searched by swimmers on Monday and dive teams Tuesday and Wednesday because of its close proximity of the nightclub and the vehicle in which he was to ride home.

Dyer is described as a Caucasian male, 5 feet 9 inches tall, about 190 pounds, with blond hair and blue eyes. He has facial hair, and both ears are pierced with wooden gauges.

Police are asking anyone with information to call the Saco Police Department at 284-4535.

Meanwhile, there has been an outpouring of support for the family of Dyer. An online fundraising campaign on GoFundMe has generated more than $3,000 in one day. Schools in Old Orchard Beach have begun a fundraising campaign for the family as well.
