ALFRED — A Springvale man has been indicted in connection with an October robbery of the local 7-11 convenience store.

Keith L. Hammonds, 27, was arrested in Belgrade at the home of his mother two days after the Oct. 25 robbery. A York County grand jury handed up a Class A felony robbery indictment earlier this week.

Sanford Police say Hammonds walked into the 7-11 on Main Street in Springvale armed with a knife around 6:30 p.m. Oct. 25, and demanded cash after first asking for two packs of Marlboro cigarettes.

He was given some money – police won’t say how much – and ran away, police said. Police searched the area with a dog immediately after the robbery, but were unsuccessful in tracking down the suspect.

Police didn’t say what led them to Hammonds, but a news release issued following his Oct. 27 arrest stated they learned the suspect was staying with his mother and sister in Belgrade.

He was arrested by Sanford Police and Kennebec County Sheriff ’s deputies.

Hammonds was originally held on $2,000 cash bail. At his first court appearance after being taken into custody, a judge set bail at personal recognizance with a Maine Pre-Trial Services contract. Contracts typically include a series of conditions by which defendants must abide.

A York County Jail corrections officer said this morning that Hammonds had made bail and was no longer in custody.

An arraignment date was not available as of this morning.
