ALFRED — A Maine State Police trooper investigating a November hitand run of a pedestrian said police have a suspect in mind, and may soon be pursuing charges.

“We’re looking at a particular individual,” said Trooper John Heimbach on Friday. “We expect to go to the district attorney about charges.”

John Caramihalis, 21, sustained serious injuries in the incident.

According to state police, an anonymous caller reported at 2:45 a.m. Nov. 21 that a pedestrian had been struck by a vehicle on the unpaved stretch of Kennebunk Road in Alfred. Police determined that a large group of young adults had been gathered about a mile away for an outdoor party.

Caramihalis was in critical condition for some time. Heimbach said on Friday that he had been released from the hospital, and is recovering.

During the course of the investigation, two vehicles were seized; one has been released, Heimbach said.

The trooper said the case is still an open, ongoing investigation, and he was unable to put a time frame on charges.
