Route 9 in Amherst was shut down after a one-car accident Sunday afternoon.
Maine State Police said a car struck a utility pole about 3 p.m. and power lines fell into the road, forcing its closure. The road, which runs between Bangor and Calais, will probably remain closed for most of the afternoon, they said.
State police said motorists can use Route 179 to detour around the crash.
There were no injuries immediately reported in the crash, said Steve McCausland, spokesman for the Maine Department of Public Safety.
