BRUNSWICK — Curtis Memorial Library invites to community to an author event featuring knitter and mountain climber Laurie Doran at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 25.
Doran will talk about her quest to knit a variety of mittens from mountain regions around the world using ancient techniques and indigenous materials.
The mitten patterns from around the world gave her insights into other cultures and her mountaineering experiences led her to a reverence for the mountains and respect for harsh climates.
A selection of Doran’s mittens are on display at the library throughout the month of January, including mittens inspired by Andean Mountains, Mount Everest, Norway, Nepal and Maine.
This event is free and open to the public. For more information, call (207) 725- 5242 or visit www.curtislibrary.com.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
