NORTHFIELD, Vt. — The Bowdoin College women’s basketball team enjoyed a historic evening on Thursday as the Polar Bears defeated Norwich University, 83-49.

Sophomore guard Lauren Petit tied a school record for 3-pointers in the victory that gave head coach Adrienne Shibles her 300th career win.

Bowdoin improved to 11-4 with the win, while the Cadets fall to 8-7.

Petit connected on the first seven treys she tried to tie the record set last year by Sara Binkhorst. En route to a game-high 24 points, Petit had hit nine 3-pointers this season entering Thursday night’s game

Shibles earned her 300th coaching victory, giving her 162 at Bowdoin after her 138 at Swarthmore. In her eighth year at Bowdoin, Shibles owns a 162-52 record (.757) since arriving in Brunswick in 2008.

Despite the final score, it was Norwich that came out firing, jumping to an early 8-0 lead thanks to eight straight points from Shyann Josler.

Bowdoin stormed back and closed the first quarter on a 17-2 run, taking the lead for good on a Marle Curle 3-pointer.

Petit single-handedly put the game out of reach in the second quarter, hitting on four 3-pointers and sparking a 27-point period for Bowdoin. The Polar Bears led 44-23 at halftime and continued to pour it on in the third quarter as Petit nailed three more from long distance.

Bowdoin will return to NESCAC play on Sunday afternoon at home against Williams at 2 p.m. in Morrell Gymnasium
