A New York man and an Oakland woman were arrested early Thursday morning and charged with selling heroin.

Kendell Cagle, 27, of New York City, who goes by the street name “Gudda,” and Shayna Shaw-Jenney, 27, of Oakland, were charged with Class A aggravated trafficking in Schedule W drugs. The charges were aggravated because of the amount of drugs seized and Cagle’s prior felony drug conviction from New York.

The two were arrested by Maine Drug Enforcement Agency officials in Shaw-Jenney’s apartment at 19 Hill Street in Oakland before dawn. Nearly a quarter pound of heroin was seized in the arrests.

The MDEA, working with Oakland Police, opened an investigation into people from New York City suspected of selling heroin from the apartment. Agents conducted several undercover purchases of heroin from the apartment occupants.

MDEA agents, assisted by Maine State Police, Oakland Police and Kennebec County Sheriff’s deputies searched the apartment early Thursday and seized nearly 100 grams of heroin – the equivalent of 1,000 doses – $1,800 in cash and other evidence of drug sales.

Cagle’s bail was set at $25,000 cash, Shaw-Jenney’s at $5,000.

The investigation is continuing. Officials said more arrests are likely.
