BRUNSWICK — Brunswick High School’s girls junior varsity Orange basketball team had a busy travel schedule over the weekend, defeating Biddeford, 48-28 on Friday evening, and rolling to a 54- 27 win over Edward Little at Auburn on Saturday.

Against Biddeford, Brunswick held quarter leads throughout the contest. The Dragons scored 21 points in the second quarter to take a 30-18 halftime advantage. Emily LaRochelle scored all of her team-high 10 points during the second-quarter run, which featured two 3-point baskets from the baseline.

Brunswick’s bench played well, accounting for 37 of the Dragons’ points. MacKenzie Burrows had nine points while Johnnie Folsom added seven for Brunswick. Tanisha McKenzie led the Dragon defense, while Burrows added eight rebounds and three steals.

On Saturday the Dragons blew open a tight contest in the second quarter. Edward Little trailed Brunswick 14-12 after the first quarter, but a 15-3 second-quarter run by the Dragons took some of the fight out of the Red Eddies.

Brunswick continued its advantage with a 13-6 third-quarter edge followed by a 12-6 fourth quarter lead.

The Dragons’ pressuring defense, spurred by Allie Eck, Anna Kousky and Heather Kinee, set the pace for Brunswick. Margaret Dickinson was the game-high scorer with 11 points. Dickinson also grabbed nine rebounds while picking off five steals caused by Brunswick’s menacing pressure.

Rian Sachs and Tanisha McKenzie each scored 10 points for the Dragons. In the second half Brunswick settled into a half-court defense where Hollie Black stood out with her help-side awareness. She took two charges.

Savannah Fisher led the Red Eddies’ offense with 10 points.
