PORT CLYDE (AP) — Two fisherman required rescue off the coast of Maine after they escaped their burning ship by jumping into the ocean.

Coast Guard officials say a distress call was received around 10 a.m. Thursday reporting that the engine room of the vessel Miss Lynn was on fire about four miles south of Port Clyde.

A 29-foot response boat was launched in response. The Coast Guard also requested assistance from other boats in the area.

The victims, who both put on survival suits before their plunge, were pulled from the frigid water by fellow fishermen aboard the vessel Bug Catcha. The temperature of the water was estimated to be around 40 degrees.
