SACO — Two teenagers are scheduled to make their first court appearance this afternoon after being arrested on the Maine Turnpike Saturday night with $5,000 worth of heroin, which they allegedly intended to sell on the streets of Biddeford and Saco.

Zachary Adams of Saco and Cole Goulet of Biddeford, both 19, were charged with aggravated trafficking in heroin, a Class A felony.

The men were taken to York County Jail in Alfred, where they were each held on $10,000 cash bail, Maine Drug Enforcement Agency Commander Scott Pelletier said in a statement.

Pelletier said the investigation is continuing, and additional arrests are expected. Meanwhile, the two men are expected to appear this afternoon at Springvale District Court via video link from the jail.

On Saturday night, drug agents saw Adams and Goulet leave the Sunrise Motel in Saco and drive out of state. At about 10 p.m., police stopped them on I- 95 in York, and a search of their vehicle yielded about 30 grams – or an estimated 300 doses – of heroin and $1,100 in suspected drug proceeds, Pelletier said. He estimated the value of the heroin at $5,000.

Immediately after the arrests, agents and Saco Police served a search warrant at room 25 of the Sunrise Motel, where Adams had been staying. Pelletier said no illegal drugs were found in the room, but additional information regarding others allegedly involved in the heroin distribution was seized.

The weeks-long MDEA investigation found that several people had been routinely traveling from Maine to Haverhill, Massachusetts, purchasing heroin in bulk and bringing it back to the motel, where agents allege it was repackaged and sold in individual doses throughout Biddeford and Saco.

Pelletier said anyone with information about the incident or the illegal sale of drugs in their community are urged to contact the local police department or the MDEA office closest to them or by calling the MDEA tip line at (800) 452- 6457.
