Rapid Ray’s got its start in 1953 as a hot dog and hamburger stand operating out of the back of Renald “Ray” Camire’s van. Eventually the family business opened in its current location on Main Street in downtown Saco.
Don Camire is in charge now, but Rapid Ray’s still serves the burgers, steamed hot dogs, french fries and onion rings that made it a Saco institution. The restaurant doesn’t have tables or servers – just a stand-up counter facing the windows.
Rapid Ray’s is open late – past midnight – and Camire says his favorite part of the job is interacting with customers, many of whom he sees daily.
