SANFORD — Raymond F. “Babe” Lantagne, 81, of Sanford, died Monday, Feb. 1, 2016, at the Pavilion in Sanford.

Babe was born Jan. 13, 1935, to Charles and Marie Lantagne in Sanford, where he grew up and attended local schools. During his working life, he had been employed at York Heel and as a mason tender.

He was a devout Catholic, and had been a communicant of St. Ignatius Parish in Sanford.

He enjoyed playing cards and watching sports, especially the Red Sox and the Patriots. He also enjoyed going for daily walks and going out to breakfast with his stepson, Danny.

Babe was predeceased by: his wife, Anita (Nolette); his stepdaughter, Gloria Jean Berkowitz; and his siblings, Harvey, Eva, Armand, Leo, Alphee, Theresa and Emile.

He is survived by: three stepsons, Danny Townsend and his wife Sandra of Lyman, Ricky Townsend and his wife Sandy of Old Orchard Beach, and Timmy Townsend and his wife Daisy of Lewiston; a sister, Anita Cadorette and her husband Valdere of Biddeford; several nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and one great-great granddaughter.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 6, at St. Thérèse of Lisieux Parish, Notre Dame Church, Payne Street in Springvale.
