SEARSPORT — The Old Orchard Beach girls basketball team fell to the host Searsport 50-32 after being outscored 18-3 in the final quarter in the Class C preliminary round on Tuesday night.
Brianna Plante led the Seagulls with 15 points, all coming from 3- pointers, while Anna Bucklin led Searsport with 19 points.
Searsport took a quick lead in the first quarter, outscoring Old Orchard Beach by a 12-5 margin. Bucklin made an immediate impact, scoring six points in the first quarter.
Although the Seagulls scored nine points in the second, including two 3-pointers from Plante, Searsport was able to increase its lead to 25-14 heading into the half.
An issue that Searsport faced was free throw shooting, in the second quarter they failed to convert a single free throw in six tries.
Old Orchard Beach bounced back and had a strong third quarter, scoring 15 points. Plante scored another two 3-pointers, and the Seagulls trailed by a narrow three points heading into the final period of play.
It was then that Searsport surged, going on a heavy offensive attack. Four different players scored points, and managed to outscore OOB 18-3 in the final eight minutes, securing the win.
