Office hours

The Town Office, at Mallett Hall, is open Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m., Monday 8:30 a.m.-6:30 and closed Friday. It will be closed on Presidents Day, Monday, Feb. 15, and reopen Tuesday, Feb. 16, at noon.

Meetings

The Pownal Board of Selectmen will meet Monday, Feb. 22, at 7 p.m., at Mallett Hall.

Planning Board workshops on ordinance review, back lots and definitions, are Wednesday, Feb. 10 and Wednesday, Feb. 24, both starting at 8 a.m., at Mallett Hall.

The regular Planning Board meeting is Wednesday, Feb. 17, at 7 p.m., at Mallett Hall. A discussion of the back-lot ordinance draft review is on the agenda.

Info session on

lowering taxes

The Pownal Board of Selectmen will host an informational session about programs offered to qualifying taxpayers in Maine to help reduce land values, Saturday, Feb. 20, from 9-11 a.m., at Mallett Hall.

The meeting is being held ahead of a revaluation that will be completed this summer. New property values will be provided later this spring. Applications for all programs will be available at the informational session, as well as explanations of each program.

School group seeks volunteers

Impact is a nonprofit organization in Pownal whose mission is to support educational and enrichment opportunities for the students at Pownal Elementary School.

Since the school is part of the Pownal community, the group is looking to community members for some support. A couple volunteers are needed to help develop a clear marketing and/or fundraising plan for next year. It is anticipated that the project would not be a huge time commitment. Fuego Diablo

hosts music night

Fuego Diablo will host its first Open Mic Music Night of 2016 on Saturday, Feb. 13, at 6:30 p.m., at 52 Loring Lane in Pownal.

Musicians, singers, storytellers, poets and entertainers of all ages and abilities are invited to take the stage at this intimate acoustic venue. The event is free. A sign-up sheet is available and impromptu collaborations are always welcome. Seating is limited. Creative world cuisine, including gluten-free and vegetarian, is served from 5:30-6:30 p.m.

Beginning its fourth season, Fuego Diablo is the creative endeavor of musician/composer Jamie Pearson and artist/writer Wren Pearson at their home in Pownal. What began as an avenue to meet local musicians during the winter has blossomed into an expanding community of performers.

Food pantry on Wednesdays

The North Pownal United Methodist Church Food Pantry on 851 Lawrence Road is now open every Wednesday from 9:30-11:30 a.m. The pantry never knows from week to week what it will be getting. Fellowship, coffee and snacks are served before food distribution. The pantry helps those in need and welcomes everyone. Donations are appreciated. The church office number is 688-4938.

Men’s breakfast

First Parish Church of Pownal hosts a men’s breakfast the first Saturday of each month, at 7:30 a.m., at the church, open to any men who want to come, regardless of affiliation. The Rev. John Wentworth leads the discussions.

Prayer, Praise and Worship, with the Rev. Raymond St. Pierre, is held every Thursday at 6:30 p.m., at the North Pownal United Methodist Church, 851 Lawrence Road. For more information, call St. Pierre at 837-0682 or Kim Drew, church secretary, at 837-2938.

North Pownal United Methodist Church worship service is Sunday at 9 a.m., led by the Rev. Raymond St. Pierre. Sunday School for children and adults begins at 10:30 a.m. St. Pierre’s hours are Wednesday from 8 a.m.-noon and by appointment only in the afternoon, Thursdays by 4 p.m. The church phone number is 688-4938. The First Parish Congregational Church, Route 9, worship service is Sunday at 9:30 a.m. Sunday School for all ages is 11 a.m.-noon. Bible Study meets at the church on Tuesday at 7 p.m. Choir has started and anyone wishing to join is welcome to come to rehearsals on Tuesdays at 6:15 p.m. For more information, call the Rev.
