YORK — A Saco man was arrested Wednesday and charged with heroin trafficking as part of a drug investigation by state and federal agents.

According to a press release issued Thursday by the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency, Jeffrey March, 24, and others routinely traveled to Lawrence, Massachusetts, to purchase heroin in bulk that would later be repackaged and sold in the greater Biddeford-Saco area.

Drug enforcement agents had been investigating March for about a month when they saw March and Brandon Perry, 23, of Scarborough leave Wednesday evening in March’s car, according to the press release. The agents then confirmed they traveled to Lawrence, and observed them as they returned to Maine on the Maine Turnpike.

The pair was stopped by a Maine State Police K-9 unit on Route 1 around 10 p.m. Wednesday. Each man had heroin hidden within his clothing, and a total of 24 grams, the equivalent of 240 doses, was seized, according to the DEA. The approximate street value of the heroin is $3,800.

March and Perry were arrested and taken to the York County Jail. Each man is charged with aggravated trafficking in heroin, a Class A felony. Bail was set at $100,000 cash each.
