ROCKLAND — The Wells wrestling team had a strong day at Saturday’s Class B Wrestling Championships as six Warriors earned spots on the medal stand.
Cullen Cummings and Michael Wrigley led the way for Wells with a pair of second-place finishes.
Cummings picked up a 55-second pin in his 126-pound quarterfinal match and then picked up an 11-1 major decision over Isaac Taylor of Erskine Academy in the semifinals.
In the 126-pound final, Cummings faced Mountain Valley standout Caleb Austin and would fall by technical fall.
Wrigley rolled into the 160-pound final with a technical fall and a major decision. The standout faced Ellsworth’s Trent Goodman in the championship match and would come up on the wrong end of a first-period pin.
The Warriors got third-place finishes from Nolan Potter at 182 pounds and Sean MacCormack-Kuhnma at 195 pounds.
Jake Spofford (170) and Brenden Dean (220) came home with fourth-place medals for the Warriors, who tied for fifth in the team standings.
All six Wells wrestlers will compete in the All States meet on Saturday at Mt. Ararat High School in Topsham.
