Fire crews responded Tuesday morning to a fire that broke out in a triple-decker home in Westbrook.

A contractor using a blow torch to thaw frozen pipes ignited a small fire in the basement of the three-unit home on River Street about 10:45 a.m. Tuesday.

The fire was extinguished in about 20 minutes, said Deputy Fire Chief Steve Sloan.

The contractor was taken to a hospital with minor burns to his hands, Sloan said.
