The Durham Republican Committee will meet on Monday, Feb. 22, at 6 p.m., in the meeting room behind the Shiloh Chapel.

Information will be given out regarding the March 5 GOP Presidential Preference Poll/County Caucus. The Feb. 22 town meeting will be followed immediately by an Androscoggin County GOP Committee meeting at 7 p.m. All registered Republicans are welcome to attend.

Commission to meet

A meeting of the Durham Historic District Commission will be held on Thursday, Feb. 18, at 6:30 p.m., at the Durham Town Office, 630 Hallowell Road.

to fix church roof

Tickets for a quilt and pillow sham raffle are being sold to benefit the Shingle Fund of the Durham Congregational Church, to re-shingle the church roof.

Community Lunch

coming March 1

Community Lunch at the First Congregational Church of Durham, 773 Royalsborough Road, will be served Tuesday, March 1. Doors open at 11:30 and the meal is served at noon. The suggested donation for lunch is $2-$4, and all proceeds fund future lunches. The general schedule is the first and third Tuesday of the month.

For those interested, the book club meets on the first Tuesday of the month. The book for future discussions is “Gone Girl,” a novel written by Jillian Flyn.

The church, located at the intersection of routes 9 and 136, is handicapped-accessible. Those interested in helping or who have questions can call Julie Wagoner at 353-9715.

Absentee ballots

ready March 1

Absentee ballots for Durham’s municipal election will be available Tuesday, March 1. The deadline to request an absentee ballot is Monday, March 28.

Durham’s election is Friday, March 1. Voters will be filling two, three-year terms for the Board of Selectmen; three, three-year terms for the Budget Committee; and one, three-year term on the Regional School Unit 5 board.

Poll workers,

moderator sought

Any Durham resident interested in working at the election polls on April 1 should come into the Town Office and speak with the staff. One should be in a political party or willing to enter a party.

Any interested, experienced adult who would like to act as moderator at the elections and annual town meeting in April should call 353-2561 for more information. The town’s previous moderator, Gary Wood, has retired but is willing to train and/or guide the next person.

Durham scholarship

The Durham Scholarship Committee will award one $1,000 scholarship this year. Scholarship applications and qualifications are available at the Durham Town Office or online at www.durhamme.com and must be completed and returned to the Town Office no later than March 11, at 4:30 p.m. The scholarship will be paid directly to the recipient after the successful completion of the first semester (minimum 2.5 GPA). The recipient, who must live in Durham, is limited to one scholarship award. The recipient must have applied and/or been accepted as an incoming freshman in an accredited academic, vocational, professional or technical school, college or university and must attend classes full-time.

Applications will be reviewed and finalists chosen by the Durham Scholarship Committee. The scholarship award will be presented at the Durham town meeting on Saturday, April 2. All scholarship applicants will be notified of the committee’s decision by mail prior to April 2.

Snowmobile club

Tri-Town Penguins Snowmobile Club meets the last Tuesday of the month through April, at 7 p.m., at the Durham Fire Station, 615 Hallowell Road in Durham. The next meeting is Feb. 23 New members are always welcome. For more information, contact Duncan Daly at 865-6188 or Mike Yates at 865-3555.

AMVETS, auxiliary membership

Veterans who want to belong to an organization that supports other veterans, families and the local are welcome to join the Durham AMVETS Post 13. For membership information, call Chad Burke, 798-0956.

Weekly cribbage

The Durham Eureka Community Center, corner of Route 9 and Route 136, hosts cribbage every Tuesday from 9 a.m.-noon.

Rent Eureka Center

The Durham Eureka Community Center is available for rent. The maximum amount of people the hall holds for an event is 50. Contact Nancy Decker at 751-1323 or the Town Office at 353-2561.

Food pantry

The Lisbon Area Christian Outreach (LACO) food pantry, which serves the towns of Durham, Bowdoin, and Lisbon Falls, is open Wednesday from 6-8 p.m., Thursday from 10 a.m.-noon and Saturday from 8-10 a.m. The LACO Food Pantry is located at the Marion T. Morse School on School Street, Lisbon Falls. The parking lot is behind the Lisbon United Methodist Church, off Berry Avenue. There is also a free clothing bank.
