LEWISTON — Bates College sophomore Nina Davenport of Freeport has been named the NESCAC Women’s Basketball Player of the Week by the New England Small College Athletic Conference following her outstanding performance in Sunday’s win over Williams.
Davenport shot 6-of-10 from behind the 3-point line en route to a season-high 26 points, leading the Bobcats to a 59-49 upset victory against the visiting Ephs. Davenport added a gamehigh 13 rebounds and a pair of blocked shots in the win, which allowed Bates to finish
4-6 in conference play and gain the No. 7 seed in Saturday’s NESCAC Championship quarterfinals.
In Bates’ 2-1 week, the 5- foot-11 Davenport averaged 16.7 points, 11.7 rebounds, 1.7 steals and one block per game. She finishes the regular season ranked fourth in the NESCAC in scoring average (16 points) and ninth in rebounding (7.4).
Making its first appearance in the NESCAC playoffs since 2013, Bates plays at second-seeded Amherst this Saturday at 2 p.m.
