Maine State Police arrested a Buxton man Wednesday who they say has admitted to at least 17 burglaries in Hollis, Dayton, Buxton, Scarborough and Saco.

Troopers arrested Shawn Swenson and his girlfriend, Abigale Hall, 25, both of Buxton, after two homeowners in Dayton noticed suspicious activity near their homes this week. One homeowner reported finding a strange man in the house.

Investigators were led to Swenson after he allegedly tried to pawn stolen jewelry.

Trooper James MacDonald saw Swenson’s vehicle on River Road in Buxton and initiated a traffic stop. After searching the vehicle, troopers found jewelry stolen earlier in the day from a home on Pease Road in Buxton. Also in the car was the couple’s 1-year-old child.

After his arrest, Swenson admitted to stealing cash, jewelry, tools and marijuana in 17 burglaries in five towns, state police said Thursday.

Swenson said he committed the burglaries to support his prescription drug habit, police said.

Swenson and Hall were summonsed on four burglary charges, and Swenson is being held in the York County Jail on $5,000 cash bail. He is expected to appear in Springvale District Court on Friday. Hall is expected to appear in York County Superior Court on April 8.
