A Windham man was injured Sunday afternoon when he lost control of his company-owned van, left the road, rolled over and struck a utility pole in the town of Poland.

Joseph Grant III, 38, was flown by Life Flight helicopter to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston with non-life-threatening injuries, said Sgt. Tim Kachnovich of the Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Department.

Police said Grant’s van, which is owned by the Dead River Co., broke the utility pole in half. Grant was trapped inside the van for about an hour while Central Maine Power crews worked to safely remove the pole and wires.

He was eventually extricated from the vehicle by members of the Poland Fire Department. The cause of the crash, which was reported at 2:20 p.m., remains under investigation.

Route 11, which is also known as Bakerstown Road, had to be closed for about an hour.
