On a day when President Obama just announced that he will visit Cuban dictator Raul Castro in Havana next year, I could find no mention in the Times Record that President Obama will skip attending the funeral service for Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia on Saturday. The Vice-President will attend the funeral service instead.
“It is rare for a sitting Supreme Court justice to die during any administration. But in recent history, the sitting president has attended these funerals. George W. Bush attended the funeral of Chief Justice William Rehnquist in 2005, and Dwight Eisenhower did the same for Chief Justice Fred Vinson in 1953.”
Justice Antonin Scalia is a historic figure and admired by millions of Americans.
When asked, White House spokesman Josh Earnest could not rule out that President Obama will be playing golf instead.
Other news outlets decided to cover the President’s decision not to attend the service. I wish that The Times Record would have as well.
