KENNEBUNKPORT — Kids’ Winter Garden Programs at the Louis T. Graves Memorial Public Library (for children ages 8 to 12) will be held on four consecutive Thursdays beginning this Thursday and running through March 10 from 3-4 p.m.
Classes are free and will be taught by Shelley Wigglesworth, a certified Maine Master Gardener and award-winning local journalist. Pre-registration is required and the classes are limited to 12 students.
On Thursday, there will be an event to create zen gardens. Make a portable table top zen garden to take home and help to make one for patrons of the library to enjoy. All supplies (sand, containers, rocks, crystals and miniatures) will be provided.
On March 3, the library will have a workshop on marimo gardens. All supplies (plants, mason jars, shells and rocks) will be provided. Marimo is a tiny living seaweed ball fast becoming a favorite houseplant. Marimo balls require minimal care and aid in stress relief.
On March 10, attendees can make up to two birdfeeders and bring them home. One will be built by using a clear, recycled, plastic drink container, while the other with pine cones, vegetable shortening and bird seed.
The library is located at 18 Maine St. For more information and to pre-register, call 967-2778 and ask for the Junior Room.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
