AUGUSTA ( AP) — Maine’s congressional delegation has offered a mixed response to President Barack Obama’s proposal to close the Guantanamo Bay detention facility.
The Portland Press Herald reports Sen. Angus King, an independent who causes with Democrats and Rep. Chellie Pingree, a Democrat, both say they’re in favor of closing the facility. But King says it’d be a mistake to do it without a well-defined plan in place.
Sen. Susan Collins says she open to considering a plan about how to close the facility. The Republican says she wants specific details on how it would be done.
But Republican Rep. Bruce Poliquin called Obama’s proposal a “dangerous and senseless” plan that he says could put the country at risk.
