AUGUSTA (AP) — Maine election officials are ready to rule on referendums to raise the minimum wage to $12, to create a casino in southern Maine and to tax upper-income residents to raise more money for schools.

Wednesday is the deadline for the secretary of state’s office to certify those referendums.

A proposal needs 61,123 valid signatures to be placed on the November ballot.

Several referendums already have been cleared for the November ballot. One of them would require a background check before a firearm sale or transfer between individuals. Another would institute ranked choice voting.
