It seems to us that the town of Brunswick and all who love Middle Bay owe Henry Heyburn and Rich Knox an enormous debt of gratitude, for uncovering a serious lapse in permitting for shoreline projects such as the one now under way at Miller Point.
Further, it’s too bad that neither Maine nor the town of Brunswick require any more notice of a project even of this scale than a brief note in the classifieds and notification of immediate abutters. The project was well under way before neighbors were able to offer valuable input. It’s clear to us that the project would have benefited from the advice of neighbors–advice that could have been offered over a cup of coffee at someone’s kitchen table.
That said, we welcome our new neighbors just as we are glad to see the town aware of the need for oversight.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
