SPRINGVALE — Southern Maine Garden Club met recently at the Springvale Library for a lesson in composting from Master Gardener Ron Vincent of Sanford.
Before his program began, Vincent sang the praises of the Master Gardener program through the Maine Cooperative Extension (www.extension.umaine.edu), where he participated in the certificate training program. He is now performing his 40 hours of volunteering for gardening projects for the first year.
SMGC meets throughout the year at the Springvale Library on the third Wednesday of every month beginning at 6:30 p.m. (unless otherwise noted). The public is invited to attend the meetings to see if they would like to join.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
