OLD ORCHARD BEACH — The city Planning Board approved a plan for a Dunkin’ Donuts at 14 Ocean Park Road on Thursday, with provisions it hopes will alleviate traffic concerns at the location.

JFJ Holdings LLC, which owns a seasonal Dunkin’ Donuts in downtown Old Orchard Beach, intends to build a year-round Dunkin’ Donuts at the corner of Smithwheel and Ocean Park roads, on the site of the former Windsor Motel and Cabins.

The proposed 2,080- square-foot coffee and doughnut shop would have an entrance and exit on Smithwheel Road and an additional exit on Ocean Park Road.

The plan has received criticism from the police chief as well as nearby abutters who have expressed concerns with traffic. The Planning Board approved the plan with the condition that deliveries be restricted to the hours of 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 6-9 p.m.

Planning Board Chairman Win Winch said he thought the developer took into consideration feedback from the town and suggested traffic enhancements o improve traffic flow and safety at the location, including new crosswalks, signs and widening Smithwheel Road at the intersection.

“I think this is going to be a great improvement to that section of town,” said Planning Board Vice Chairwoman Linda Mailhot.
